DETAILED INSTRUCTION...
Ken offers what he likes to call "ATD Yoga" (Attention To Detail). This is a hatha yoga practice incorporating his studies from various styles of yoga, including: Iyengar, Viniyoga, and Vinyasa. Alignment for each pose is offered in a manner that ensures you harvest the greatest benefits from your yoga practice. Most poses are held for 3-6 soft centering breaths. At other times a slow flow moves you through the poses. You are always deepening your practice from the inside out with a fluid breath, exploring the fine line between effort and surrender. That fine line is where you challenge yourself with enough effort to achieve results, but surrender prior to any chance of injury.
COMFORTABLE PRACTICE ATMOSPHERE...
Currently (as a result of COVID) you will be practicing in the comfort of your own home! :-) But when we do return to our facility... our yoga room is kept at a nice 70-72 degrees. Ambient light fills the room and the only sounds are your instructor's voice and your internal breath.
RECOMMENDED YOGA EQUIPMENT...
Ken often uses yoga props during his instruction. Suggested equipment includes a mat, 2 yoga blocks and a yoga strap. You probably already have a mat. If not, Ken can loan you one for your first class. Blocks and straps are available for public use at the yoga facility. Should you choose to take Zoom classes, you will need two (4x6x9") yoga blocks and an 8' yoga strap with a cinch buckle. The best online prices for blocks and a strap Ken has been able to find online, is at: Sunshine Yoga
GOLDILOCKS SATISFACTION...
If you've ever read Goldilocks and the Three Bears, then you know Goldilocks kept looking until she found something that was just right for her. That's exactly what Ken wants to be sure you find when you do your yoga practice with Y4EB. There are so many yoga options out there that it can be challenging to choose what's right for you. Y4EB classes consist of students at "all levels" of their yoga practice, and for that reason yoga poses are taught in stages. Each stage takes students further into their practice. Ken will help you decide which stage is best suited for your ability. You are always encouraged to explore the next stage, but if you feel like your pose is "falling apart", it is recommended you return to the stage that offers you the optimum benefit. When you find that place in your yoga practice, like Goldilocks, you might just say to yourself, "This feels just right". :-)
A SENSE OF FELLOWSHIP...
Yoga can be a very private thing for you, even in a room full of people, or it may become a new community of friends with a common interest! You choose. Many students arrive 15-20 minutes before class to visit and interact, often spending another 10-15 minutes chatting in the parking lot after class. You may just find yourself with a few new extended family members.
